South American Hardwood are a very dense and heavy material
that will last 25 plus years in outdoor applications. Stainless steel fasteners
are required to prevent corrosion.
One option is to
screw down the deck boards with stainless steel screws. The other option is to
blind fasten through the edge of the boards with screws. This will require
special clips and a groove cut into the edge of the decking material.
The South American Hardwoods are so hard and dense that they
require predrilling before a fastener can be inserted. Pam has designed screws
with tips that predrill as they are driven. The screws come collated in plastic
strips that feed into the driver for continuous fastening.
